Manson School District has received a $150,000 Health and Safety ADA Access Grant, which will support improvements to provide equitable access to the high school weight room. This grant program is designed to help K–12 public schools make facility repairs and alterations that better comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
The proposed project will replace both current staircases to meet modern code requirements and install a powered chair lift to provide ADA-compliant access to the upper level. Replacing both stairways is essential not only for overall code compliance but also to provide safe access for students with mobility limitations who do not require the lift but cannot safely use the existing steep, non-compliant stairs. This one-time capital investment will remove long-standing barriers, eliminate unsafe practices, and allow all students to participate safely and independently in required physical education and athletic conditioning.
