Our Career Choices and Intro to AI students recently participated in an educational field trip to tour Sabey Data Center in Wenatchee, gaining a firsthand look at the technology that powers the digital world. During the visit, guides explained the role data centers play in storing, processing, and protecting information used daily by businesses, schools, and individuals. Students also learned how servers, networking equipment, power systems, and cooling infrastructure work together to keep data available and secure around the clock.
The tour highlighted the wide range of careers within a data center environment. Students were introduced to roles such as data center technicians, network engineers, cybersecurity specialists, facilities managers, and IT support staff—each contributing to safe and reliable operations.
Guides also discussed the education and training pathways for these careers. While some positions require college degrees in information technology, engineering, or computer science, others emphasize technical certifications, hands-on experience, and apprenticeships. Overall, the field trip provided valuable insight into technology careers and helped students connect classroom learning to real-world applications.
