GLAD Teacher Training
Last week, Manson Elementary hosted OCDE Project GLAD® trainers from the North Central ESD to train our staff along with other teachers from several districts across our region. Trainers Cyndy Valdez, Kathy Anderson, and Nayda Bush spent the week in one of our 3rd grade classrooms demonstrating engaging teaching strategies in real time to an audience of twenty teachers. The training focused on how to make content come alive through sketches, pictures, chants and other media. Project GLAD® trainers claim that deep cognition is developed through well-designed lessons building upon the brain, biliteracy, second language acquisition, and reading and writing research. Valdez stated that, “GLAD® fully engages ALL learners in the classroom. It allows for universal access to the curriculum. Students learn at their own levels and grow from there. It also ignites teachers with renewed enthusiasm for planning instruction.”
