Reason for going into education: Growing up I found my place in the classroom.  I was blessed to have many caring, knowledgeable and hardworking teachers that pushed me to reach my full potential.  Although I did not know how much of an impact it would have on me, by the time I started college I knew my calling was in education.  I have found schools are where I can make a difference for the youth in the community.  I strive to help each and every student find what drives them and how their unique skills can better their future.

Professional Experience: After graduating from Central Washington University I spent nine years teaching Physical Education, Science and Health at the middle levels.  I also coached volleyball, gymnastics and track at the middle and high school levels.  After watching dynamic administrators, and with the support of my supervisors, I obtained my master’s degree and administrative certificate.  With those, I dedicated the next seventeen years to service as a building administrator in Arlington School District where I served all three levels of education and grew to be a leader of my peers providing professional development and support to other building administrators while still serving as a building principal.  In 2018 I was ready to expand my learning and headed back to school for my superintendent’s credentials.  After my first year I realized that I could positively impact even more students through advocating and guiding administrators and teachers as a superintendent.  I am so glad to have chosen this profession and am loving the opportunity to serve Manson School District.

Education:

Washington State University, Superintendent Certification

Seattle Pacific University, Masters in Educational Leadership and Principal Certification – Magna Cum Laude

Central Washington University, Bachelors of Science

K-12 Teaching Certification with endorsements in Physical Education, Earth Science and Health Education

Decatur High School, Diploma

Outside Interests: I love the outdoors and getting in a short hike or walk whenever I can.  I also relax and re-center myself by sewing or drawing.  If I pick up a good book I will read through the night to get it finished and have found a new love for audiobooks when I am traveling to conferences or visiting family.

Personal Information: I have been happily married for 23 years to my wonderful husband.  I have two children who both attend Washington State University one is a senior and the other is a sophomore.  They are both growing into adults I am proud of and learn from every day.

Why Education:

I have always wanted to be a teacher…since the first day of kindergarten when I made my sisters sit crisscross applesauce on the floor while I was their teacher. I’m sure they thought I was bossy, but I like to tell them it was leadership and learning. As I moved toward finishing my degree, my desire for working with students who struggled in math, felt they were not good at math, and those who could think about math in amazing ways was fueled. Today that passion continues as I work alongside an amazing community of people who are committed to providing equitable opportunities for all students who walk through our school doors.

I spend a lot of time reading and working on my house/property. I enjoy quilting, and I endure running and have completed a couple half marathons. Spending time in the mountains backpacking, camping, and fishing are highlights of each summer and when I am able to relax completely. Mostly I spend time with my family who are my rock. I am so fortunate to be in Manson surrounded by my supportive parents and four younger sisters…and my very large (and loud) family.

Personal Information:

I have four children that are growing up way too fast. Hanna is a 4th grade teacher, Gabe is in a welding apprenticeship program, Libbey just graduated and determining her pathway, Tyler is a HS junior who lives for basketball.

I love coffee, pizza, chocolate, and peanut/almond butter (which is why I run).
