Mr. Fox’s Manson Elementary Stay in Shape Plan
Email: jfox@manson.org
Hello Manson Elementary students, this is Mr. Fox your P.E. teacher. During the time we are away from each other at school, I wanted to make some recommendations for all of you to stay in shape.
- Get 60 minutes of exercise each day! Most of you would do that by playing games or activities with your family or friends. Tag games, soccer games, basketball, jumping rope, riding bikes, going for family walks, hiking, racquet sports like badminton or tennis, playing catch with a Frisbee, football or baseball, and even exercising family pets are a few ideas to get you moving. Use your imagination, but get a minimum of 60 minutes per day- you can do it!
- Stretching daily. At least 10 minutes. Focus on the stretches we work on in class. Hold each stretch for about 10-15 seconds. Remember, don’t stretch until it hurts, stop right before that point and hold it. It should be uncomfortable but not hurt.
- Push ups and Sit ups 5 days per week. Either when you get up in the morning or right before bed. Remember your arms need to bend in half when you go down! Do as many as you can from your hands/toes position and then do a few more from the hand/knees/toes. Perform the sit ups always with your knees bent while laying on your back. You can have someone hold your feet for you or put your feet under something heavy like a couch. The other option is to do the sit ups like in class with no one holding your feet.
- Drink plenty of water. Drink 5-10 glasses of water per day.
- Get plenty of sleep! 8-10 hours per night is ideal- don’t stay up so late!
One more thing, anyone who charts or keeps a daily journal of their activities that help them stay in shape can hand it in to Mr. Fox for extra credit when we return to school. If a student needs help from someone older to do the writing for them, that is okay. Look forward to seeing you all soon, until then take care of yourselves.
Sincerely,
Mr. Fox
