Each student must complete his or her portfolio requirements on a quarterly basis. Portfolios are a valuable tool in recording a student's learning and successes. Please encourage your child to work steadily on this year-long project to avoid deadline rushes. Click here for details about portfolios.

Accelerated Reader
Accelerated Reader is an independent reading program used in the High School. Students are assigned a point goal each quarter. They check out books from the library to read during reading period or at home. When a student finishes a book, he or she takes a computerized test and is awarded points. The points become part of the Language Arts grade.

Equivalency Credit for PE
Equivalency credit(s) for physical education can be earned through successful full-season participation in a regular high school athletic activity. This option shall be approved by the secondary school principal and will include written recommendations from the supervising coach(es) as to the granting of credit(s).

College in the High School (Cornerstone)
Cornerstone gives students the opportunity to earn college credit while still in high school. All courses offered through Cornerstone are regular offerings at Central Washington University. Sophomores and juniors must pass a prerequisite test to take the classes. Manson School District pays for half the student fees. Parents/guardians are responsible for the balance. Read about Cornerstone at Central's website  or see high school counselor for details.

Skills Center
The North Central Washington Skills Center in Wenatchee offers programs that are an extension of your high school at an off-campus site. Classes are offered twice a day and credits earned apply to your graduation. High school juniors and seniors can receive advanced technical training at the Skills Center. See high school counselor for details.

Running Start
This program created by the legislature lets juniors and seniors enroll in college classes at Wenatchee Valley College. The purpose is to provide academically-qualified students the opportunity to take college courses as part of their high school program. Any student who attends Running Start must keep up to date on the requirements of the School-to-Work portfolio and senior activities. See high school counselor for details.

Teacher's Aide
Juniors and seniors may register for one period of teacher aide class per quarter. Teacher availability for an aide may preclude selection of a particular teacher/period.
