Way To Go Trojans ~ Onto Districts!

2.16.10

Coach Crollard reports:

It was a nice win for the boys to get their confidence back before going to districts. We started a little slow, but I have to give credit to Bridgeport they came out ready to play and gave us a run in the first half.

We were down 1 at halftime and needed to play better defense then we did in the first half. They were getting to many open 3 point shots, and were making most of them. However, we came out in the second half and played much better defense to pull ahead.

Ruben Guillen scored 22 points and Schuyler Neff added 17 points. Javier Guillen has been playing very well for us the past 3 games and he scored 14 points and collected 9 rebounds. Alex Escalera and Jordan Pittman also had good games for the Trojans. Now it’s time for Districts and this is where it really counts.

We play Oroville on Monday Feb. 22nd at Wenatchee High School 4:00 pm. The boys are excited to get an opportunity like this. They have played hard all year long and have earned the right to play for a state berth.

Thank you for all your support to the Manson Trojans, please join us on Monday for the game against Oroville and wear your Blue and White!

MANSON GIRLS VARSITY 29 Bridgeport 43

2.16.10

Coach Hill reports:

Roni Vanderholm scores 12 points in her last Trojan game

Once again, we decided not to show up to play in the first half and went to the locker room down 24 points! Then once again we made some adjustments and gave Bridgeport fits, but it was just too late when we finally got the lead down to single digits. Then when we needed to foul we weren't even close to being in the bonus because of how well we played defensively in the second half.

This game was really a tale of two halves, as we were absolutely pounded in the first half; Bridgeport looked like they were doing a clinic on easy lay-ups. Then in the second half we played MUCH better defense and forced them to settle for the deep shots and they could not hit those shots consistently. At the offensive end of the floor the girls looked like a totally different team too. We pretty much quit making any turnovers and started being more aggressive; while playing much smarter.

Overall this game was a lot like our season. We started out pretty slow this year, but the girls really worked and got a lot better as the season progressed. The improvement for many of these girls has been unbelievable, including our junior varsity team that got their first win of the season at Bridgeport this last Tuesday!

We will all really miss our two seniors, Veronica Vanderholm and Yessenia Escoto, but at the same time our team was very young this year so there is a lot of excitement for the future of Manson Girls Basketball. Vanderholm has been a two-year starter leading us in rebounds last year and this year. She has also been a top-three scorer in both of the past two seasons. Escoto is a first year starter, and has shown a ton of improvement from last year becoming a top-three rebounder, stealer and scorer for this team.

After our last game Tuesday we went to McDonald's in Brewster and one of our parents decided to buy dinner for all of the players and cheerleaders on the bus, I thought that was really cool, and just in case some of our players may have forgotten to thank her, I am thanking her and telling her what a neat thing that was that she did. This is one of the reasons that it is so great to coach the Manson Girls Basketball Team; the girls are great girls because they have great parents who are helping their daughters become great young adults.

I would like to thank all of the parents, family, friends, community, staff and administration for all of their support throughout this entire season. It was great to see so many parents at our last game in Bridgeport.

Stats from Tuesday:

Cheyanne McFadden: 4 points, 2 rebounds, 1 turnover, 2 assists and 2 steals.

Veronica Vanderholm: 12 points, 8 rebounds, 1 turnover, 3 assists and 2 steals.

Yessenia Escoto: 2 points, 6 rebounds, 5 turnovers, 2 assists and 7 steals.

Sierra Miller: 4 rebounds, 2 turnovers.

Angelica Suarez: 7 points, 4 rebounds, 3 turnovers, 6 steals.

Thalia Lepley: 3 rebounds.

Hailey Ellsworth: 4 points, 4 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 steals.
