Being the first game of our preseason, I was very pleased with the overall play of the Trojans! With the senior leadership that we brought back from last year I knew we could come out and do some good things this year. The players battled hard all 32 minutes of the game. We came out very fast and a little nervous missing on some very easy buckets, but after the first quarter we settled down and executed our game plan. It was a great opportunity for all 10 players to get some experience before the start of league. Ruben Guillen led the way for the boy’s with 14 points including 4 three pointers and all 10 players scored in the game for Manson.
We are looking forward to our next game this Thursday against the Alumni team. It will be a good test for these players to play against some older more mature players since we have some tough teams in our league we need to be prepared to play.
The Lady Trojans played their season opener game against ThorpHigh School on Friday, December, 11th.The Lady Trojans got off to a very slow start really struggling to make their easy" shots, but as the game went along things got a lot better and the defensive’s pressure really helped them pull away.
Thorp was a lot bigger than the Lady Trojans were at 4 of the 5 spots on the floor and our girls really out hustled them to many offensive rebounds. We learned a lot from this game though; we now realize that we really need to work on free-throws (2-13,) passing and help defense. The girls came away from the game with the one thing that we had hoped to gain and that was confidence.
Hailey Ellsworth had a good game with 12 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals while running the point for most of the game. Cheyanne McFadden came up with 2 points, 4 rebounds and 4 steals. Veronica Vanderholm had a big night with 9 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 6 steals. Yessenia Escoto came off the bench to score 10 points, grabbed 4 rebounds, and had 2 assists and 4 steals. Sierra Miller played great defense and had 4 points and 2 assists. Angelica Suarez had 4 rebounds and 3 points. Thalia Lepley had 6 hard earned rebounds.
